An uphill drive on a private road lined with flame trees showcases panoramic views of verdant mountains and rolling hills playfully dipping into valleys: a foretaste of the visual feast to come. Rising from what was once a mango orchard, the preponderance of mango trees throughout the grounds provides not only shade and lushness, but also gives La Jolla a distinctively refreshing ambience. More so, during the fruit bearing season when these trees are heavily laden with luscious mangoes in various stages of ripeness.

One arrives at the peak where La Jolla’s Pavilion and villas look out into the magnificent vista, where the aquamarine sea rendezvouses with the blue skies in the distant horizon, and where mountain slope gracefully roll down to meet a 300- meter beach front sheltered in a cove.

The secret of La Jolla’s flourishing grounds is that the luxury resort’s layout is worked around the existing trees in the estate. The structures were constructed to nestle in between the property’s many trees, only a minimal number were cut to accommodate these to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Its 5.5 hectares of teeming tropical vegetation is the fruit of allowing the trees to dictate the physical flow of the resort.
